Information to help you on your debt recovery journey.
The debt collection process can be confusing, so we’ve put together some information to help guide you through it and aid you in making informed decisions about your recovery.
Greenwoode Financial is committed to working collaboratively with you to resolve your debt, and our goal is to treat you with the respect, dignity, and transparency you deserve. This is Our Promise.
We are committed to:
We Are Committed To Compliance.
Greenwoode Financial follows applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations that govern debt collection.
We know those laws and regulations can sometimes be difficult to navigate, so we’ve listed some helpful resources below. While this list is by no means exhaustive, it’s a good start:
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is the main federal law on debt collection practices
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has a list of FAQs on the FDCPA
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) publishes this guide to understanding your rights in debt collection
The CFPB has this helpful resource on the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which is the main federal law that governs credit reporting
The FCRA requires each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting agencies to give you a free credit report every 12 months
For more about the national consumer credit reporting agencies
Transunion.com
Experian.com
Equifax.com
There are varying laws that regulate the period of time within which a creditor or debt collector can file a lawsuit to recover a debt, otherwise known as a statute of limitations.
The CFPB publishes this article on statutes of limitations
Note that the statute of limitations is not the same as the time period that a creditor or debt collector can report the account to the nationwide consumer credit reporting agencies (refer to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) for that)
There may be more debt collection laws that apply depending on the state where you reside.

Our Commitment to Transparency:
Greenwoode Financial is dedicated to providing you with the clear information and required disclosures you need to make informed decisions about resolving your debt.
Here are the specific ways we uphold this commitment:
* Ownership Integrity: We only collect on debt that we own, and we never resell your debt to third parties.
* Clear Identification: When we acquire your account, we mail a primary notification containing essential details so you can easily identify and verify the debt.
* Digital Access: We mirror the account information from our physical letters on our website, ensuring you have the data you need at your fingertips while considering resolution options.
* Essential Disclosures: We provide mandatory disclosures to keep you fully informed. For example:
* We will notify you if your debt is past the statute of limitations; if so, we will not pursue legal action.
* While state laws vary regarding whether payments or promises to pay can restart an expired statute of limitations, Greenwoode Financial maintains a policy that we will not sue you on such debt, even if the statute could be legally restarted.
* Proactive Communication: We send formal letters to confirm the start of a payment plan, provide regular payment reminders, and issue a final confirmation once your debt is resolved.
* Credit Reporting & Resolution: If we are reporting your account to credit bureaus, it will be marked as "paid-in-full" (or "paid-in-full for less than the full balance") once your final payment clears. Within approximately 30 days of that final payment, we will request that credit reporting agencies delete our tradeline related to your account from your credit report.
* Privacy Protection: We do not discuss your account with anyone else unless authorized by you or permitted by law.
* No Hidden Costs: The balance you see in our communications is exactly what you owe. We do not add hidden fees or surprise charges.
